About the role

Multi-site Catering Company | Montague Gardens, Cape Town

Salary: R30,000 – R38,000 per month

We are looking for a hands-on Junior HR Manager to take responsibility for the day-to- day HR function across three busy food and hospitality businesses based in Cape Town.

The portfolio includes a high-end catering operation, a deli and a central production kitchen, with a varied workforce made up of permanent, fixed-term, shift and casual employees.

This is a practical, operational HR role suited to someone who is comfortable being on the ground, dealing directly with managers and employees, keeping the administration tight and handling employee relations matters confidently from start to finish.

  • Manage the day-to-day HR function across all three businesses.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and POPIA-compliant employee files, including contracts, IDs, banking details, SARS information and other required documentation.
  • Monitor probation periods and fixed-term contract expiry dates.
  • Prepare and submit accurate monthly payroll information, including leave, employee changes, warnings, deductions and acknowledgements of debt.
  • Ensure payroll information is submitted within the required monthly deadlines.
  • Manage time and attendance records and ensure overtime has been correctly approved before payment.
  • Handle employee relations matters independently.
  • Manage disciplinary processes from investigation through to charge sheets, hearings, outcomes and the necessary documentation.
  • Provide HR guidance and support to operational and kitchen managers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant South African employment legislation, including the BCEA, LRA, EEA, UIF, COIDA, National Minimum Wage legislation and POPIA.
  • Manage recruitment, contracts, onboarding, induction and employee exits.
  • Prepare the necessary exit documentation, including UI-19s and certificates of service.
  • Maintain HR policies, templates and employee documentation.
  • Maintain training records and support employment equity, skills development and related reporting requirements where applicable.
  • Produce regular HR reports covering headcount, vacancies, employee relations matters, staffing challenges and outstanding actions.
  • Assist in maintaining consistent HR standards across the different businesses and locations.
  • Liaise with external labour consultants where necessary on more complex employee relations matters.

What they're looking for

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources Management, Labour Relations, Industrial Psychology or a related field.
  • Approximately 5 year HR generalist experience, ideally including experience within hospitality, catering, food production, retail or another shift-based environment.
  • Strong practical employee relations and disciplinary experience.
  • Able to conduct disciplinary processes independently and confidently.
  • Good working knowledge of South African labour legislation.
  • Experience with payroll inputs, leave administration and time-and-attendance systems.
  • Experience working with SimplePay would be advantageous.
  • Strong Excel and general administration skills.
  • Experience supporting more than one business, department or site would be beneficial.
  • Valid drivers licence and own reliable transport.
  • Clear criminal and credit record.

The Person We Are Looking For

You will need to be organised, accurate and comfortable working in a busy operational environment where deadlines matter.

You should be confident enough to follow up with managers when paperwork has not been submitted, fair and consistent when dealing with employees, and discreet when handling confidential information.

This role will suit someone who enjoys the practical side of HR and is happy to get involved rather than operating purely at policy level.

Working Hours & Travel

This is a full-time, Monday-to-Friday position based in Montague Gardens, Cape Town.

Some flexibility will be required, including occasional weekend or after-hours attendance where operationally necessary.

There may also be occasional travel to Johannesburg as required.

If you have not heard back from us within the next two weeks, please consider your application as unsuccessful on this particular occasion.
