About the role
Our client in Pretoria is recruiting for a Intermediate Software Engineer to join their team.
You will join a high-performing, collaborative team utilizing the Scrum framework, keeping a strong focus on quality standards and operational excellence across our ecosystem.
- Core Solution Development: Plan, design, and engineer robust software solutions in isolation or collaboratively within agile Scrum feature teams.
- Code Quality & Peer Reviews: Conduct and assist with thorough code quality reviews, establishing best practices and maintaining high engineering standards.
- Troubleshooting & Debugging: Perform deep-dive diagnostics and resolve complex technical issues across both development environments and client production platforms.
- Dependency & Architecture Management: Research, evaluate, and implement new third-party Java/JavaScript libraries, frameworks, and architecture patterns.
- Mentorship & Technical Alignment: Conduct internal training sessions on newly developed APIs, present technical solutions to stakeholders, and participate in client architecture discussions.
What they're looking for
The Essentials (Must-Haves):
- Key Tech Focus: Java-first core environment, OCP/OCA Certification, JavaScript, MS SQL Server, SVN, Jenkins, JIRA.
- 2+ years of solid hands-on software development experience with a heavy focus on Java.
- Matric qualification plus a BTEC Information Systems Diploma or similar tertiary qualification.
- Strong Java background expertise alongside open-source technologies and web application architecture.
- Proficiency in JavaScript (understanding browser compatibilities and inconsistencies; Prototype JS knowledge is beneficial).
- Solid experience working with relational databases, specifically MS SQL Server.
- Familiarity with enterprise development tools: SVN (code versioning), Jenkins (release management), and JIRA (issue tracking).
- Knowledge of secure programming practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and prevent exploitable code.
The Game-Changers (Highly Advantageous):
- Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) or Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) Java certification.
- Proven track record in building complex web-based investigative, incident management, or monitoring systems.
- Strong analytical mindset with a passion for investigating modern tech trends and architecture design patterns.
