About the role
The Head Guide oversees all guiding operations within the reserve to ensure exceptional safari experiences. This role is based in a luxury five-star lodge environment and focuses on leadership, guest safety, and conservation ethics.
- Oversee the daily operation of all safari activities including game drives and guided bush walks.
- Coordinate safari schedules and guide allocations.
- Lead and conduct game drives and bush walks.
- Host VIP guests and conduct specialised safaris.
- Lead, mentor and supervise the team of Field Guides and Trainee Guides.
- Develop and implement a structured training programme for trainee guides.
- Monitor wildlife sightings and animal movements within the reserve.
- Oversee the management and maintenance of all safari vehicles.
- Ensure the safety of guests and guides during all safari activities.
- Coordinate safari operations with other lodge departments.
- Maintain records of safari operations and compile guiding department reports.
What they're looking for
- FGASA Level 2 (NQF4) qualification.
- First Aid certification.
- Professional Driving Permit and a valid driver's licence.
- DEAT and NDT registration.
- Advanced Rifle Handling (ARH) qualification.
- At least 5 years experience in a Big 5 reserve.
- Strong technical skills and mentorship abilities.
- Excellent guest relations skills.
- Sober habits.
