About the role
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Fruit Production Manager to oversee fruit production, orchard activities and labour management.
- Manage orchard activities, including chemical thinning, crop protection and orchard development
- Monitor diseases and pests and manage pest control programmes
- Calibrate and manage fertiliser applications
- Manage 4–6 teams responsible for harvesting, thinning and pruning, including recruitment, organisation and performance evaluation
- Implement and maintain GlobalG.A.P., Nature's Choice and SIZA standards
- Plan daily and weekly production targets
- Allocate labour, equipment and materials effectively
- Monitor work quality and productivity
- Manage staff, discipline and team development
- Maintain accurate records and assist with payroll administration and budgeting
- Compile weekly reports and handle general administrative duties
What they're looking for
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Physiology or a related field will be advantageous
- Minimum 5 years' experience in fruit production, preferably within a commercial farming environment
- Experience with pome and stone fruit
- Good knowledge of crop protection, including MB 4000, pest control and orchard management
- Experience with GlobalG.A.P. or similar certification programmes
- Strong leadership, management and communication skills
- Good administrative and computer skills
- Ability to work independently, motivate teams and improve productivity
- Strong discipline, punctuality and attention to cleanliness and standards
