Travelling: Must be prepared to do ad-hoc travelling between the Alberton branch and the Troyeville branch in Johannesburg CBD. Regular travelling to installation/construction sites is mandatory within the entire Gauteng area. Petrol travel costs will be reimbursed.
Minimum of 5 years’ work experience required within a Telecoms/Fibre Company.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience is required as a Fibre Technical Manager.
Overtime and standby will be required.
Weekend work: Installations might require weekend work (ad-hoc basis).
Must have a valid driver’s license and own car.
Experience in the Telecoms/ISP/Fibre industry is required.
Clean ITC/credit record and no criminal record.

Salary package:
CTC market-related and negotiable (depending on the candidate’s skills, experience & qualifications).
First 3 months of probation period includes only the basic salary. After the 3-month probation period compulsory benefits kick in namely Discovery Key Core Plus medical aid (50% employee contribution & 50% employer contribution) and the Group Life Cover which is 100% paid by the employer.
Travelling involved:

Main job function:
- The Fibre Technical Manager will be responsible for managing, supervising and coordinating a team of approximately 12 Fibre Technicians responsible for the installation, activation, maintenance and fault-finding of Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Fibre-to-the-Business (FTTB) services.
- The successful candidate will ensure that all fibre installations and technical work are completed safely, efficiently, professionally and in accordance with company, customer and industry standards.
- The role requires a strong combination of technical fibre knowledge, people management, field operations, customer service, quality control and problem-solving skills.
Team Management & Supervision:
- Manage and supervise a team of approximately 12 Fibre Technicians.
- Allocate daily jobs, installations, fault calls and maintenance work to technicians.
- Monitor technician workloads, productivity and performance.
- Conduct daily team briefings and communicate operational priorities.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching and mentorship to technicians.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, productivity and adherence to company procedures.
- Conduct performance reviews and address performance issues where required.
- Identify training and development requirements within the technical team.
- Ensure technicians maintain a professional appearance and conduct when visiting customers.
- Manage disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies and procedures.
FTTH & FTTB Installations:
Oversee the successful completion of fibre installations for both residential and business customers, including:
- Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) installations.
- Fibre-to-the-Business (FTTB) installations.
- New customer installations.
- Fibre extensions and internal fibre installations.
- Fibre termination and connection.
- ONT installation and configuration.
- Router/network equipment connectivity.
- Fibre testing and signal-level testing.
- Activation and commissioning of customer services.
- Ensuring installations meet required technical and quality standards.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
- Provide technical assistance to Fibre Technicians when they encounter complex installation or network problems.
- Assist with troubleshooting fibre connectivity and signal issues.
- Investigate recurring technical faults and identify root causes.
- Oversee fibre fault-finding and repair activities.
- Review OTDR and other fibre test results where applicable.
- Assist with fibre splicing, termination and testing issues.
- Escalate major or network-related faults to the appropriate technical/network team.
- Ensure faults are resolved within agreed turnaround times.
Quality Control:
- Conduct quality inspections and audits of completed installations.
- Ensure technicians follow approved installation methodologies and standards.
- Ensure fibre cabling is installed neatly, securely and professionally.
- Check fibre terminations, connections and equipment installations.
- Ensure technicians complete all required testing before closing jobs.
- Review photographs, job cards, test results and installation documentation.
- Identify recurring quality problems and implement corrective action.
- Conduct spot checks on technicians' work at customer premises.
- Ensure customer premises are left clean and in an acceptable condition following installations.
Operations & Job Management:
- Coordinate daily field operations and technician schedules.
- Monitor the allocation and completion of installation and fault tickets.
- Ensure jobs are completed within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Monitor outstanding, delayed and escalated jobs.
- Ensure technicians update job statuses accurately and timeously.
- Liaise with the Operations/NOC/Customer Service teams regarding job progress.
- Escalate delays, access problems, technical issues and customer complaints.
- Monitor first-time-right installation rates and repeat call-outs.
- Identify opportunities to improve technician productivity and operational efficiency.
Customer Service:
- Ensure technicians maintain a professional and customer-focused approach.
- Assist with escalated customer technical complaints.
- Investigate customer complaints relating to installations, workmanship or technician conduct.
- Liaise with customers where technical issues require management intervention.
- Ensure customer expectations are managed throughout the installation process.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
Health & Safety:
- Ensure technicians comply with all company health and safety requirements.
- Ensure technicians use the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ensure safe working practices are followed at residential, commercial and construction sites.
- Ensure technicians are appropriately equipped and trained for field work.
- Conduct or coordinate safety inspections where required.
- Report accidents, incidents and unsafe working conditions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant occupational health and safety requirements.
Tools, Equipment & Vehicles:
- Ensure technicians have the necessary tools and equipment to perform their work.
- Monitor the condition and availability of fibre installation and testing equipment.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained and accounted for.
- Monitor company vehicles and ensure technicians adhere to vehicle policies.
- Manage stock requirements for fibre, connectors, cables, ONTs and other installation materials.
- Liaise with procurement/stores regarding stock shortages and equipment requirements.
Reporting & Administration:
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly operational reports.
- Monitor technician productivity and job completion statistics.
- Track installation volumes, fault resolution, outstanding jobs and SLA performance.
- Report on technician performance and operational challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, faults and maintenance activities.
- Analyse recurring faults and installation failures.
- Provide management with recommendations for improving operational performance.

Qualifications & experience required:
- Grade 12/Matric.
- Relevant technical qualification/courses completed in the telecommunications, fibre optics or networking would be advantageous. Fibre-related certifications/training would be advantageous.
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Minimum of 5 years’ work experience required within a Telecoms/Fibre Company.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience is required as a Fibre Technical Manager.
- Proven experience managing technicians, preferably a team of at least 8 to 10 fibre technicians.
- Hands-on experience with FTTH and/or FTTB installations.
- Experience with fibre fault-finding, testing and troubleshooting.
- Experience with ONTs, routers and basic network connectivity.
- Experience working with fibre installation and testing equipment.
- Experience dealing with residential and/or business customers.
Technical skills and knowledge required (should have a sound understanding of):
