About the role

Essential: Candidates must have previous catering or large-scale events experience.

We are recruiting an experienced Events Manager for a busy Cape Town catering operation servicing stadiums, hotels, events and other catering companies.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-moving operation where event days can involve catering for up to 800 people. We need someone who understands the realities of large functions: tight timelines, multiple suppliers, staff coordination, transport, set-up and the inevitable last-minute changes.

You’ll be joining the Cape Town division, which currently has a team of around 25 staff.

The role covers both event planning and day-to-day operations. You’ll be involved in client communication, quotations and invoicing, supplier and subcontractor requirements, vehicle and function planning, packing lists, décor and event set-up, as well as ensuring that function information is properly handed over to the kitchen and operational teams. Weekly event reporting, including staffing, hiring and décor costs and event profitability, also forms part of the position.

• This is not a purely office-based events role. You need to be comfortable being on the ground, checking equipment and décor, coordinating staff and vehicles, dealing with issues as they arise and being present at functions when required.
• The kitchen is Halaal. Previous Halaal catering experience is not required, as the procedures can be taught, but you must be comfortable working within a Halaal kitchen environment.

What they're looking for

• We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked in high-volume catering, large-scale events, banqueting, contract catering or similar operational environments. You should understand what it takes to deliver consistently when volumes are high and deadlines are fixed.
• You’ll need to be organised, practical and strong on follow-through, with the confidence to deal with clients, chefs, suppliers, operational teams and casual staff. The position also requires someone who can resolve client issues quickly and make sure event documentation is accurate and up to date.
• Working hours
• The company aims to work on a five-day week, although the nature of the business means flexibility is required. A significant portion of the work involves sporting events, so weekend work will form part of the role, and there may occasionally be a six-day week around a major event or particularly busy period.
• Salary: R25,000 – R30,000 per month, negotiable depending on experience.
• This position would suit someone who enjoys the pace of catering and events, likes being involved in the operational detail and can take responsibility for getting a function from planning stage through to successful delivery.
