About the role

Events & Business Development Manager - Wine Estate | Western Cape | Hybrid

Salary: Circa R45,000 per month

Hybrid Position | Remote Working with On-Site Attendance in Montague for Events and Operational Requirements

An established wine estate in the beautiful Montagu region of the Western Cape is looking for an experienced, commercially driven Events & Business Development Manager to develop its events business, attract new clients and oversee the successful delivery of weddings, private celebrations and corporate functions.

This is an opportunity for someone who knows the wine industry and wine estate events market, has an established network of industry contacts and understands how to turn a beautiful venue into a commercially successful events destination.

We're looking for someone who can bring in the business and deliver the event.

The successful candidate must be equally comfortable developing relationships with wedding planners, event organisers and corporate clients as they are managing the practical, technical and logistical requirements of a large-scale function.

The Role

Business Development & Revenue Generation

  • Actively identify and secure new business for the estate's wedding, private function and corporate events offering.
  • Develop relationships with wedding planners, event management companies, corporate event organisers, destination management companies and other potential referral partners.
  • Use an established personal network of contacts within the wine, hospitality and events industries to generate enquiries and confirmed bookings.
  • Develop strategies to position the estate as an attractive destination for weddings, celebrations, launches and corporate events.
  • Conduct venue presentations, site inspections and client consultations.
  • Prepare proposals, quotations and event packages, with a sound understanding of pricing, profitability and commercial viability.
  • Build a sustainable pipeline of future bookings and repeat business.

Event Planning, Technical Operations & Logistics

  • This is where we need considerably more than traditional wedding coordination experience.
  • The successful candidate must understand the full operational requirements of staging professional events, particularly outdoor weddings and large functions on a wine estate.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and coordinating weddings, private functions, corporate events and other estate-based experiences from initial enquiry through to final execution.
  • Managing event layouts, guest flows, venue capacities and operational requirements.
  • Coordinating the installation of marquees, stretch tents, flooring, staging, lighting, sound systems, audiovisual equipment and other event infrastructure.
  • Working with technical production companies, marquee suppliers, event hire businesses and specialist contractors.
  • Understanding practical site requirements, including electrical supply, generators, water, sanitation, access roads, parking and guest transport.
  • Coordinating catering, bar services, entertainment, furniture hire and other external suppliers.
  • Managing event schedules, supplier deliveries, installation and breakdown times.
  • Ensuring appropriate contingency plans are in place for weather and other operational challenges.
  • Overseeing events on-site to ensure smooth execution and a professional guest experience.

Supplier Management, Safety & Compliance

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with reliable, established event suppliers and contractors.
  • Negotiate supplier rates and manage costs without compromising quality.
  • Coordinate external contractors working on the estate.
  • Understand and manage relevant supplier compliance, health and safety requirements, risk assessments, insurance documentation and site access procedures.
  • Ensure that event installations and technical operations meet applicable safety and operational standards.
  • Liaise with suppliers and relevant authorities regarding permits and approvals where required.
  • Ensure that suppliers work safely and responsibly within the estate environment.

What they're looking for

**What

We're Looking For**

  • Proven experience in events management combined with business development, preferably within the wine estate, wine tourism, hospitality or premium events sector.
  • A strong working knowledge of the Western Cape wine industry, wine estates and the wedding and events market.
  • An established network of wedding planners, event companies, corporate clients, venues and relevant industry contacts.
  • A demonstrated ability to generate new business, convert enquiries and grow events revenue.
  • Solid experience in event operations, technical production and logistics, beyond décor and traditional function coordination.
  • Established relationships with event infrastructure suppliers, including marquee, lighting, sound, staging and equipment hire companies.
  • Experience managing external contractors and understanding supplier compliance and on-site safety requirements.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including event budgeting, costing, quotations and profitability.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, negotiation and client relationship skills.
  • The confidence to work independently, manage multiple projects and take ownership of both sales targets and event delivery.
  • A professional, personable approach with the ability to represent the estate to discerning clients and industry partners.
  • A valid driver's licence and reliable transport for travel to Montagu.

Working Arrangements

  • This is a hybrid position, offering flexibility to work remotely while developing business, managing client relationships and coordinating upcoming events.
  • However, the successful candidate must be available to travel to the wine estate in Montagu for site inspections, supplier meetings, event preparation and the management of events.
  • Weekend and evening work will be required when events are scheduled, particularly during the wedding season.
  • The role would suit an established Western Cape events professional who enjoys the flexibility of hybrid working but is comfortable taking full responsibility for on-site event delivery.

Why This Role?

  • For the right person, this is an opportunity to combine established industry relationships, commercial flair and hands-on event management within the wine estate environment.
  • We're looking for someone who understands that a successful event begins long before the first guest arrives, and that securing the booking is just as important as delivering an exceptional experience.
  • If you know the Western Cape wine and events industry, have the contacts to bring business through the door and the technical expertise to make it all happen, we'd love to hear from you.
